(4th May 1935 – 8th May 2019) was an eminent jurist and legal educator, considered by many as the father of modern legal education in India. He was the founder-director of the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) and the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal and the founder Vice-Chancellor of the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS). Prof. Menon was awarded with the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honour, by the Government of India in 2003. Prof. Menon was conferred with the degree of Doctorate in Law (Honoris Causa) by Jagran Lakecity University, Bhopal in the year 2016. To commemorate his services towards reforms in legal education, JLU School of Law and Center for Professional Legal Education and Training are organizing One Week Refresher Course for early-career academicians, research scholars and doctoral candidates in the memory of Prof. (Dr.) N. R. Madhava Menon.
